Regarding the 'cmd-L' suggestion, I disagree with this because it adds an extra step. The nice advantage of a feature like this is that it would be immediately there when you want it and not intrusive. I suggest a better way to implement it would be to have the text 'segments' function almost like 'hyperlinks' in that clicking on one of them would function like a button, but a .click and drag. action would allow the text to be selected and edited.
My preference would be to have the UI location update automatically as text path info is entered/edited.
