It may be possible for us to implement folder merging on Lion since this appears to have been added to OS X’s file copy API.

I hear you and I had already read somewhere that this WASN'T a supported feature at the core level of the current Mac OS file system. And I understand that it may be quite a chore.

However, It's really a shame on Apple's part for not having a GUI for this task as it is extremely useful, even more with such big hard drives at low prices. It would be a life-saver if you guys could pull this one off.

On a side-note (it's an Apple/MacOS issue): It's unbelievable that in Mac OS X, when we replace one folder with another the replaced-folder doesn't go into the trash!
So If you make a mistake — BAM — you're out of luck!
That's such a UI destructive action that feels more like a Windows-like-way-of-doing-things than a Mac OS environment.
I was really suprised by it. (Did Mac OS 9 had a Merge feature? I have a vague idea of it having some kind of merge folders/files feature… )

For each work project I create, I have a folder structure that I try to keep simple but there's always more folders within folders. A merge feature would be a bliss for easier content-management of everybody's hard drives.

Here's to wishing this feature leaves Cocoatech's "someday" list and incorporates the "planned features" list.

Having worked with both Macs and Windows machines, the tree-view from WindowsXP explorer was one of two things that I really missed in Mac OS 9 and X. It just makes sense. Don't get me wrong I like other Finder views, each has a purpose, but 85% of the time the tree-view proved the most useful.

But the Windows XP(not 7) Explorer, though essential for me, isn't perfect and as I see it, there could be a little bit of the Mac Finder in it.

Nevermind me, but I'm gonna dream, now — This is my "dream" navigation
              :

              * 1 LEFT-panel with "Folder (hierarchy) Structure"
              * 1 RIGHT-panel with "Contents" of the selected folder (files and other folders).
The RIGHT-panel could have three modes: a list view, a Finder-like icon-mode view and a Coverflow-view (this last one being, of course, a list-view with icon carousel).

Note: On the Left-panel I would love this: besides clicking an "arrow" or a [+] symbol next to a folder to reveal it's folder hierarchy (which means there's no change in the right-panel), Why not also allow for the same feature to occur when double-clicking that same folder in the same Left-panel-Tree-View?
It would require less mouse precision (which is a problem for us, carpel-tunnel-affected-people) and that would be user-experience sweetness.

              — With the amount of Windows users that crossover to the Mac platform these days, Path Finder coulb reach new height. Someone who uses a Mac its entire life may not notice this "need" or the usefulness of this feature, but there really is a market for this. Take it seriously, please.

A lot of new Mac users are urging for something like this. And there's a lot of them that are waiting to switch, because of the lack of an 'Explorer' Tree-View app in the Mac World.

Love this Digg-like suggestions page. It shows you care about the users. Keep up the good work, guys.
