optional dual pane view would be great
it is much easier to handle with lots of files if you could add a dual pane view for easy copying and moving files around.

I also second this, but would add the ability to store the view. For instance, I often copy files from folder A to folder B on a Windows server. The dual pane is perfect for that. Now, if we could just save the view and be able to recall it on demand, instead of 1. create the double pane view, 2. Call folder A on the left pane, 3. Call Windows folder on the right pane...

i second this, and actually just sent out an e.mail at 4am about this one. 3D applications use this approach and it's highly useful to have 3 "views" side by side into different aspects of the filesystem.
Splitting horizontal and vertically are key. This might allow the view types that shelves currently cover but generalized so that any type of browser or shelf might be used anwhere in the UI
