Writable FTP support will be a tremendous amount of work, but we’d love to add it to a future Path Finder upgrade.

Compare modification dates & sizes when overwriting files
Show the changed-dates and sizes for files with the same name.
Give the dialog an option to replace dest. files that are older than the source files.

Handle archives like regular folders
Just like in Windows: list contents, traverse directories, extract/copy/move selected files, move files and folders in and out.
The technology is already in place (stuffit), but I doubt a simple plugin would do it - this feature is up to Cocoatech to implement.
It has been possible in Windows for years, but somehow has not been done on Mac (i guess Finder integration is a bitch). Well, PathFinder is the next best (better) option.
Go ahead, make any archive act like a regular folder in PathFinder!

Fully replace the Finder
Make the trash in the dock work in Path Finder. At the moment I need to have the Finder open as well just to use the trash in the Dock.
Replace the Finder in the Dock. I just can't be doing with the Finder sitting there taking up valuable Dock space when I don't even use it.
623 votesThis feature is likely to be perpetually “planned” as the Finder is so deeply embedded into the operating system.
To remove the Finder icon from the dock and application switcher:
1. Path Finder > Finder > Enable Finder’s “Remove from Dock”
2. Right-click on the Finder dock icon and select “Remove from Dock.” This works even while the Finder is running, allowing it to run silently in the background. The dock’s trash can is hard-coded to use the Finder, so there’s nothing we can do about it.

TrueCrypt Support
Support the open sourced TrueCrypt disk encrytion natively within Pathfinder so that encrypted volumes can be created and mounted without having to run TrueCrypt in addition to Pathfinder.

Make the path navigator text-editable
PF shows the current path in the path navigator with each segment as buttons so you can jump to a directory in the path. What I'd like to see is more of a "URL bar". Basically allowing a "Go to folder" feature. I like how Vista's Explorer has implemented this: it shows the buttons like PF does, but if you click on an special icon the bar turns into a text-field where you can type the path specifically.

Add copy verification
Build in an optional mechanism (e.g. checksum and/or binary comparison) that allows copied files to be verified after copying (therefore ensuring that the target file is an exact copy of the source file).
This would be available for both local file copies and those across a network.
Although this would slow down the copy process, it would be an optional process (e.g. selectable in preferences) and would be absolutely invaluable for critical file transfer.

Perform a hash integrity test after move/copy files and folders
Hash check (MD5, SHA, ect) assures that copy/move action was successfully completed. It should be performed automatically at the end of operation (setting a preference). Could also be provided the ability to generate a report as text file.

Add tools to Compare/select files in Dual Pane to help sync
Now that V5 has Dual Pane mode, we need tools to quickly see what files match, which files have the same name but a different file size or modification date ( etc...), and which files are not in each directory and have the ability to sort them as such.
I would recommend also color coding the files to make it easier to see what group they belong to.
Also being able to exclude the different matching criteria. So if you only want to see the files that are different or ones that have the newest modification date, etc...
This will…

Add Directory synchronise
i like to see a function to synchronize directories in dual-browser mode. This function should do:
1. copy all new files to target directory
2. update all older Files in target directory
3. delete all Files that are not in the source directory
4. optional select "all subdirectories"
5. save the synchronise-action for the next timeMay be there is such a synchonise in PathFinder?

Add 'Recently Closed Tabs' (like Firefox)
Or, alternately, the ability to 'undo' an accidental closing of a tab.

Provide a "PathFinder as Desktop" mode
Setting "PathFinder as Desktop" literally makes the PathFinder window the desktop. It lives in the background but that is no problem with Expose desktop view.

Invert Selection
A way to invert your files selection. Let's say you have selected 23 items on a Path Finder window and you need to invert that selection to select all the other files except the ones you have selected. Why can't you do that already? Seems useful and I felt the need to use it more than a few times already.

Highlight files and folders after unzipping archive
This has driven me bonkers for some time. After unzipping an archive the resulting file or folder is not selected. This is a huge pain when you've unzipped in a directory with a lot of content as the unzipped archive is not always similarly names as the archive itself. This is more of a bug then a feature request.

Improving alphabetical sort
If you have two files, i.g. "test.pdf" and "test (1).pdf", it's sorted like this:
test (1).pdf
test.pdfIf you mask the suffix, it's sorted the other way:
test
test (1)so the sort algorithm should only consider the suffix if the filenames are equal.
