Batch File Rename

Build in a batch file renaming function similar to Many Trick's Name Mangler (http://manytricks.com/namemangler/) - which is a free application. Then have little drop boxes associated with specific directories that append preset file renaming instructions when files are dragged to them.

I just got a Mac and while searching for all the apps i will be needing in everyday work, i was comparing different "Finder-Apps" to handle large amounts of images and songs etc. IT ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED ME to learn that this great application with all its other ways of managing large amounts of files (search, filter, select etc.) doesn't have a way to do a batch rename!! I mean after selecting a large amount of files, renaming them properly would seem like one of the basic important things to me.

This feature is absolutely necessary for everyone who has to manage large amounts of files (almost all of the power-users, I guess). Personally I am one of those people and I am eagerly looking forward to see this feature implemented.

I'd love to see this as well. Should have a preview showing the change and allow the specification of strings either to be removed or added (appended).

same problem here (absence of batch rename), we have to use ugly muCommander only because of batch rename function (about 50 macs)

        Hello,
Batch rename is a must from my pov. I work in post-production and we handle many times image sequences. Just imagine what happens when one has to render out and replace several hundred frames into a long feature for different outputs that got different names. it is a pity we do the rename in Adobe Bridge ( mac ) witch is slower than pathfinder and in Total Commander on Win. I hope next Pathfinder would have something similar with Total Commander. Rename is very powerful over there

Forklift is quite simple at batch renaming. The real power comes from regular expressions. When I need to multi-rename large files, I got used to use Automator which is already integrated into Snow Leopard.

I'm also a Name Mangler user and find it exceedingly helpful--use it mostly to rename image files en mass. It would be wonderful if this feature were built right into Path Finder.

That would be great! Name Mangler does good work, but has a BIG disadvantage. If you rename large files, it looks like ALL data would be transferred to Name Mangler instead of only filenames.

ForkLift also has a nice Batch Rename implementation.

kent: Could you send me a copy of R-Name to agentriot at gmail dot com?

The best implementation of a batch renamer on osx I've found is (was) Tagaya Yoichi's R-Name. Simple, simple, simple, with a nice preview before running the actual rename. Its no longer supported, though its out there as a shareware. Send me a note I'd be happy to forward a copy on.
