Handle archives like regular folders
Just like in Windows: list contents, traverse directories, extract/copy/move selected files, move files and folders in and out.
The technology is already in place (stuffit), but I doubt a simple plugin would do it - this feature is up to Cocoatech to implement.
It has been possible in Windows for years, but somehow has not been done on Mac (i guess Finder integration is a bitch). Well, PathFinder is the next best (better) option.
Go ahead, make any archive act like a regular folder in PathFinder!

To avoid the problem Tim Bobo refers to, why not make zip files act just like Application files. Right-click and choose either Show Contents or use the Contents tree menu. Then in addition have an extract command, as others have stated.

To navigate inside ZIP (and other compress) file, without expand it, but only see file names (and size, date etc) and search inside ZIP (to know if a specific file there is inside a ZIP).
An example of this is TotalCommander (in Windows) or MuCommander (Java). They also can use LST files (that are a simple list of file and path names). This last one feature is very powerful if you have many many big disks and you need to search inside them... without the need to have all them on line (you only need to have the LST) -

My number one beef with PathFinder. And add support for .7z creation and unRAR decompression. PLEASE.

I'm putting my votes here because you really need SOMETHING to deal with zip files (and .7z and .tar and gzip and .rar) - like Tim Bobo, I don't like the windows implementation - my preference is for a right-click ability to turn extract .zip into a folder (of the same name without the .zip) - like the windows utility called *directory opus* [in fact this program IS the ultimate windows explorer replacement, much as path finder is to Macintosh - you should check it out].
I know that there are several utilities that will unzip file - except you never quite know if the archive is going to explode into the current directory, or into a folder in the current directory - the right-click option gets it right every time!

that's a must have - why is it still "under review", change it to "done" already =P

I also would like to see this feature. I miss it very much since I like to work on archives.

Tim, rather than excluding a feature that clearly has a lot of support, why don't you suggest that it's only enabled by an option? That way we can all have what we want. Personally, it annoys me greatly that neither finder or path finder do this natively when windows does. It makes life so much easier. If cocoatech do it i'd like to suggest that they support all the common archive types (RAR,7Z,TAR,BZ,GZIP etc) in addition to zip.

Aaah. I wish I could VOTE AGAINST THIS. I would use all 10 votes!!!. You don't understand what a mess and confusion this is on Windows. Users think they have unzipped a archive then they try to use it in its unzipped state. So like I send a website to someone, and they say it does not work. I ask them if they unzipped it, and they say yes, and then they clicked on the index.html file and nothing loaded in. IN REALITY, they have NOT unzipped it. They are on WINDOWS, and they have peeked into the zip file and clicked on the index.html. NOTHING else is unzipped except that one file, so they website does not work. I have talked with TONS of other developers who have the same problem. I have spent hours and hours of my life walking through people how to actually UNZIP an archive on WINDOWS. Please NO. Please NO. Don't bring this horrible feature to Pathfinder. I know Pathfinder users are advanced. But this one would still screw people up. If you do enable it, please make obvious you are still in an archive.

If Pathfinder would implement this feature, there will be a reason more to use it; already it allows to create an archive without to open a third-party application, but this feature would really make the difference with any Finder alternatives.

Would love to see this, I know they have it in Fork Lift, but I much prefer Path Finder
