Welcome to the Path Finder feature request page! We’re going to try this out for a while as an experiment to help us figure out what features we should be working on. Submit your ideas, vote on existing feature requests, and let us know what you think!

Make the path navigator text-editable
PF shows the current path in the path navigator with each segment as buttons so you can jump to a directory in the path. What I'd like to see is more of a "URL bar". Basically allowing a "Go to folder" feature. I like how Vista's Explorer has implemented this: it shows the buttons like PF does, but if you click on an special icon the bar turns into a text-field where you can type the path specifically.

Provide a "PathFinder as Desktop" mode
Setting "PathFinder as Desktop" literally makes the PathFinder window the desktop. It lives in the background but that is no problem with Expose desktop view.

Let us know your thoughts on Lion’s full-screen apps: Do you feel that a full-screen Path Finder window that exists in its own Space would fulfill this request? Please share your ideas in the comments.

Add 'Recently Closed Tabs' (like Firefox)
Or, alternately, the ability to 'undo' an accidental closing of a tab.

More flexible sidebar/drawers
1. The option to be able to add more than 2 shelves per drawer.
2. Allow the Drop Stack and Trash to be placed anywhere on the Sidebar or Drawer.
3. Ability to 'group' items in a shelf, so similar items can be put under a group heading. (suggestion 1 may solve this).
4. Styling for Shelf headers - instead of grey bar, option for Leopard Finder 'Places' style headers.149 votesunder review ·

This will require substantial changes to Path Finder, so we’ll investigate this as a possible feature for Path Finder 6.

Compare modification dates & sizes when overwriting files
Show the changed-dates and sizes for files with the same name.
Give the dialog an option to replace dest. files that are older than the source files.

add full screen support for Lion.
It would be nice to have support for Lion's full screen option in Path Finder.

Target=Source
In Total Commander, there is a button which makes the inactive window the same path as the active window. I spend so much time trying to get the paths to match up on the windows which with one button push as in Total Commander, they are matched up, Target=Source equals Happy Dino!

Option to Disable Pinch to Zoom
Just started really using PF recently, and I really like it, except for one pet peeve that both programs share - the use of the MacBook/MacBook Pro's trackpad motion "Pinch to Zoom" on icons.
It may just be me, but there are so many times when I am trying to scroll and the OS "thinks" I am making a pinch to zoom motion because I can never keep my fingers the same distance apart while scrolling, and cause my icons to be resized. But using iPhoto without Pinch to Zoom is just a crime.
Obviously there is nothing you can… more

Show folder sizes in list view
On the list, we should be able to see the sizes of the folders as well as the file sizes. And they should be sortable.

"Visor" function
A function akin to the "Visor" functionality in applications such as TotalFinder and the Visor SIMBL plugin for Terminal would make getting to Path Finder quite a bit easier for those of us who often use commands (such as ⌥-⌥) to load windows.

Multiple Panes (more then 2)
I'd like to have more then 2 panes: rather, at wish 3 or 4 or 8...
Quite often (e. g. when I check my backups), I have to compare 3 different folders. Of course one can use tabs, but then you can't see everything at the same time...
Apart from that, I'm often doing different tasks during a period of time, and then it'd be nice to have a quadruple interface. This becomes more urgent, as screens & resolutions tend to become bigger with time - I like it, when you can actually use this space in a productive way.11 votes -

Have toolbar icon for "Default Folder X" Favourites / Recent
Default Folder X (http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX) has good integration with PathFinder, but I'd like Pathfinder to have icons you can put into the toolbar to switch to Default Folder's Favourites and Recently used. (like you get from Default Folder's menu icon.

Make using folders in panes even easier
Couple of features I *really* miss from my days using Directory Opus in Windows:
1. Open folder into opposite pane
2. Duplicate current pane in opposite paneOver the years I found these to be frequent actions so an obvious button/keyboard shortcut would help.

Allow customization of "Info" column in browser
All the detailed information is shown in the info pane, it would be nice if we could select what is shown in list view. For instance, for m4v files it currently shows length of the video in time and file size under "Info", I would like to see the video resolution listed as the second "Size" in the info pane.

Sorting feature like in OS Lion
Have a feature like in the new finder in Mac OS X Lion for sorting, it divides the files and folders into sections, for eg if I choose sort by - 'kind', it would make sections for applications, music, photography, utilities etc..

smart folder
Create Smart Folder (with the savedSearch extension) is not available. It's also not possible to modify the search's elements of a smart folder which it has been create with the Finder.
And, the Search function in PathFinder don't take access to the spotlight comments.
Add this functions a.s.a.p.

Select range of files in icon view
Please consider adding the ability to have a grid icon view where you could select one icon, scroll down while holding a modifier key and then select the last item in the range and get an auto group select (without having to drag a box around the items).
I'm a recent convert from Windows and Path Finder has been integral in my enjoyment of the Mac platform. This has been the one item that I really miss from Windows that is missing in Path Finder and in Mac OS X finder.

show the cursor in embedded terminal
…that would be useful… and may not be so hard to do, I expect.

Fix date modified display
Currently Date Modified shows "Mar 21, 2... 2:30 PM. Widening reveals "March 21, ... 2:30 PM." The ellipses are annoying and make the display hard to read. Finder has it right: "3/21/10 2:30 PM" or "Mar 21, 2010 2:30 PM." Much clearer.
