It may be possible for us to implement folder merging on Lion since this appears to have been added to OS X’s file copy API.

Writable FTP support will be a tremendous amount of work, but we’d love to add it to a future Path Finder upgrade.

Handle archives like regular folders
Just like in Windows: list contents, traverse directories, extract/copy/move selected files, move files and folders in and out.
The technology is already in place (stuffit), but I doubt a simple plugin would do it - this feature is up to Cocoatech to implement.
It has been possible in Windows for years, but somehow has not been done on Mac (i guess Finder integration is a bitch). Well, PathFinder is the next best (better) option.
Go ahead, make any archive act like a regular folder in PathFinder!

Dual pane - one click copy/move
Hi - have a look at Total Commander in the Win World: When I click copy in the top menu bar it just copies from one pane to the other.

Add full attached sidebar option to right side in dual window mode
Create an option for a duplicate sidebar on the right side of dual windows and allow it to work with the right window and the left sidebar to work with the left window. Similar to the way "totalfinder" works.

Wider rename dialog
The rename dialog is currently ~50 characters wide; long names split on the boundary breaking cmd-arrow text selection. I would appreciate it if the rename text box was wider (it can be narrower if the PF window is narrower, but when there's space a much wider box would be appreciated).

Dual Browser: Compare 2 folders. Highlight files w/ later timestamps. For backing up changed files
My old Xtree/Ztree programs offered this feature. I used it frequently to determine which files needed to be backed up (either a file with a later timestamp or a new file). The tagged files could be moved or copied anywhere.

"Loose" file after new sort
0- I am using e.g. "Name" sort order
1- I have selected a file
2- I click one of the column names to resort, e.g. by choosing "Date Modified".
3 - The selected file moves to a different location and can even force a rescroll to find it.The file should remain in the same location relative to the window so that I can immediately see its position using the new sort order.

folder compare
Have a folder compare similar to DeltaWalker, would not have to automatically sync the files, but provide the ability to copy files from folder to folder, either right or left. KISS, keep it simple.

Improved file move performance
I frequently move hundreds or thousands of small files between folders. In finder these moves (local disk only) happen instantly, with PathFinder the move dialog comes up and you can watch each file move between directories which can often take 10 or more minutes. Usually I give up and drop to the terminal or use finder to move the files. It would be nice if this was as quick as the other methods.

Change drop stack preference from copy to move
Often when I am using the drop stack I prefer that my files are moved to the new location instead of copied.
Current behaviour I have to hold down the 'cmd' key when dragging the item off the stack.
Suggest adding a preference where I can change the default setting of copy to be move.

do not load icons over slow network connection
when connecting to an SMB share via a VPN connection, opening a folder becomes terribly slow (even on a dsl link!). I guess the reason is that pathfinder loads the icons for all the displayed files (infact reading all those files).
It is terribly slow that way. Infact, it is much faster to open a rdp (terminal) session via the same VPN connection and browse the files inside the RDP connection. Isnt that weird!?
So, my wish is that you implement some kind of "speed sensing", i.e. if the icons for the first 10 files take more than 5 seconds… more

Display MP3 artists as column
Trying to manage music outside of iTunes, helpful to be able to sort by artists

shortcut to filter file names
It should be possible to select the filter filename box with a keyboard shortcut (maybe Command-S) and come back to the (now filtered) file list with another shortcut. The objective is to use the keyboard to move (cursor keys) through files, select files (return key), and filter files (using letters and other characters). Thanks!

select nearest file after deleting a file
Scenario:
I'm looking through my screenshots folder deciding which images I don't want anymore. There are 11,387 files in this folder. Since they're screengrabs they all have similar names like 2010-02-26 at Feb 26 2.21.21 PM.png or screenshot 7777.png
When I delete a file I kind of lose my place in the list because nothing else gets highlighted.
Due to my decades of Windows usage my instince is to just press up or down arrow keys to select one of the files closest to the one I just deleted and continue my browsing.
BUT, when i do that on a… more

gray out file not yet fully there
I copy from filesystem A to B, then look at B from filesystem C (A and C are actually computes, B is storage).
In Pathfinder the file shows "there". Regular Finder shows the file grayed out - it's not fully there, it's in the process of being copied.
Path Finder should match the behavior, to make it obvious the file is not fully available yet.6 votes -
Highlight files and folders after unzipping archive
This has driven me bonkers for some time. After unzipping an archive the resulting file or folder is not selected. This is a huge pain when you've unzipped in a directory with a lot of content as the unzipped archive is not always similarly names as the archive itself. This is more of a bug then a feature request.
