    1. Fully replace the Finder

Make the trash in the dock work in Path Finder. At the moment I need to have the Finder open as well just to use the trash in the Dock.

Replace the Finder in the Dock. I just can't be doing with the Finder sitting there taking up valuable Dock space when I don't even use it.

planned  ·  MichaelAdminMichael (Admin, Path Finder) responded

This feature is likely to be perpetually “planned” as the Finder is so deeply embedded into the operating system.

To remove the Finder icon from the dock and application switcher:
        1. Path Finder > Finder > Enable Finder’s “Remove from Dock”
        2. Right-click on the Finder dock icon and select “Remove from Dock.” This works even while the Finder is running, allowing it to run silently in the background.

The dock’s trash can is hard-coded to use the Finder, so there’s nothing we can do about it.

      • Enable DropBox integration via services menu

In the Finder a user can select the pop-up menu to access services. For Drop Box this means being able to do things in the DropBox folder like copying the public url for a file to distribute. This is much faster than going to the DropBox website, and if one prefers (as I do) to work mostly in PathFinder and not shift back to the Finder, it would still be faster to do this directly in PathFinder.

I know the suggestion "Mac OS Services in context menu" is indicated as "Completed," but the DropBox services menu still doesn't appear in… more

        • Open item and close the window with Command-Option-O

Apple-Option-O should open a application / folder / file AND close the window, like finder. Or at least open the selected file. Old muscle memory from Finder makes me use it all the time, but in PathFinder I end up just scrolling to the 'O' section.

          • Add the "Languages" section from Finder's "Get Info"

In order for Path Finder to completely replace the Finder for me, it still needs to add the missing "Languages" section from the Finder's "Get Info" window. As a native English speaker living in Japan, there are some times where I'm perfectly fine working in Japanese, but some applications where I'd just be more comfortable working in English. The "Languages" section allows me to deselect those languages I don't want to use for any given application - a feature that Apple's Finder has, but Path Finder doesn't.

            • Persistent sort order

Similar to Finder, make pathfinder remember the last sort order selected in a particular folder.

              • Implement Folder Actions so that Automator Workflow scripts work with Path Finder

I have frequently used folder actions configured using Finder, which triggers one of Automator's workflow scripts. This does not trigger when I have Path Finder loaded. Finder's desktop is hidden, if that matters. Perhaps this is a subcomponent of "Fully replace the Finder"??

                • Icon view window background images that align fixed & top-left so you can use "shelves" like Finder.

In any icon view window, when you set an image as a window background under the Show View Options/Set Colors/Picture/Draw Picture Background the background image does not align with the icons like Finder does. PF seems to almost align it randomly, changing the alignment as you change the window size. The background image should anchor top/left fixed and stay at 100% scale so we can use the many great "shelf" style Finder backgrounds.

                  • Follow Finder bahavior by default

The Commands that are common between Finder and Path Finder should behave exactly the same by default.

If a different behavior is desired by some users, it should be a user-selectable option, not be hard-coded, nor the default behavior. It is extremely irritating when one switches from Finder to PF and gets different results for the actions.

For example, these two discrepancies drive me crazy because I use them so often:
1- Hitting Enter when File/Folder is selected, should edit name, not open the item.
2- The COPY command on a File/Folder should copy the NAME, not the PATH. PF… more

                    • implement the Finder's longtime "option double-click" = open/close behavior

This one sticking point has kept me from completely moving to Path Finder (or even upgrading again)

                      • Have right arrow move to first file or folder

In Finder, when you open a new window in Icon or Column View and press the right arrow, it highlights the first file or folder. This should be the default behavior for Path Finder, too.

                        • disable dragging folders from sidebar

I think your realization of sidebar is too dangerous for use. User can suddenly copy contents from one partition to another, or copy the whole partition to some folder. It must be solved. Standart finder's manipulations (only drag up or down to change their position in list) is much safer.

                          • Drag & drop a list of search results to create aliases (comm-option-drag) or symlinks (control-drag)

After finding a list of search results, allow user to select the results and command-option-drag them to another folder (or the stack) to create aliases or control-drag to create symlinks. I can't find anywhere in the documentation whether control-dragging a file/folder currently creates a symlink or is just duplicate functionality of command-option-drag. Either way, you get the idea. This functionality is allowed in the Finder from a Spotlight search results window.

                                • Allow users to copy multiple files/folders with the same name to the same destination

The finder allows you to copy multiple files/folders with the same name and paste them into the same location. It'll just add a number to the end of the filename of any subsequent files with the same name, provided that they are all copying at the same time. Would be nice if Path Finder did this too.

                                    • Column width widget should enlarge window/panel like Finder

In finder when I resize the right-most column to the right, I the window enlarges. Pathfinder should do the same. If I stretch it beyond the window's width, it should stretch the window/panel, *not* increase the horizontal scroll area so that I have a larger column, but must use the horizontal scroll to see it.

                                      • Allow the sidebar application Trash X to show contents of Trash as it does in the Finder

Alternatively, I'd like to have a Trash icon on the sidebar so we can drag items easily to the Trash.
                                        Thanks! - Arthur.

                                        • Allow me to right click on a folder in the left sidebar to open a terminal window, etc.

In short, I am not sure why right clicking on folders on the right shows different commands than clicking on folders in the left sidebar.

                                          • Add "Library" to "Go" menu when holding Option key

Since the user library folder is hidden by default, the Finder has an option to go to the folder directly from the "Go" menu by holding the Option key. Would be nice for the PathFinder to mirror this feature.
