    Queued files copies

When you launch 2 big files copies (File Copy A, then File copy B), the finder and pathfinder do both file copies at the same time. This is utterly inefficient as the HD head constantly move from file A to File B back and forth to copy a bit of A, then a bit of B. A much more efficient way is to ... more

    Fully replace the Finder

Make the trash in the dock work in Path Finder. At the moment I need to have the Finder open as well just to use the trash in the Dock.

Plus, when in exposé the Path Finder Desktop disappears and I'm left with a blank background with no use.

Replace the Finder in the Dock. I just can't be do... more

Path Finder 5.1.4 gets us a bit closer to this goal.

Remove the Finder icon from the dock and application switcher:
    1. Path Finder > Finder > Enable Finder's "Remove from Dock"
    2. Right-click on the Finder dock icon and select "Remove from Dock." This works even while the Finder is running, allowing it to run silently in the background.

Path Finder's desktop can be pinned in place when using Exposé:
    1. Click on Path Finder's Desktop
    2. Choose View > Show View Options
    3. Click "Set Colors", and mark "Use the Finder's desktop window level"

The dock's trash can is hard-coded to use the Finder, so there's nothing we can do about it. We may add the option to remove it from the Dock in a future release.

    Handle archives like regular folders

Just like in Windows: list contents, traverse directories, extract/copy/move selected files, move files and folders in and out.

The technology is already in place (stuffit), but I doubt a simple plugin would do it - this feature is up to Cocoatech to implement.

It has been possible in Windows f... more

Provide a "PathFinder as Desktop" mode

Setting "PathFinder as Desktop" literally makes the PathFinder window the desktop. It lives in the background but that is no problem with Expose desktop view.

    add GIT support

(because I don't care about Mercurial support)

    Make the path navigator text-editable

PF shows the current path in the path navigator with each segment as buttons so you can jump to a directory in the path. What I'd like to see is more of a "URL bar". Basically allowing a "Go to folder" feature. I like how Vista's Explorer has implemented this: it shows the but... more

Add merge folder feature (ala Windows)

    Status: under review

We're evaluating whether we now have the time and resources to implement this feature.

    From Neilio:

This is a very difficult feature to add - I won't say it's impossible, but at the very least it's a huge amount of work. The problem is that Path Finder doesn't actually handle any file operations on its own: at it's core it simply asks the OS to do something and then displays the results.

Merging is not part of the current OS file system, so we'd have to subvert the OS's file operations to add this feature, which is a huge amount of work. I know you can do this via the command line using cp but again, simply writing a GUI for a command line feature isn't that straightforward.

I've marked this as declined mostly so it's understood that we don't foresee this being added to Path Finder in the nearish future, but it's definitely something on our "someday" list to at least investigate.

Add 'Recently Closed Tabs' (like Firefox)

Or, alternately, the ability to 'undo' an accidental closing of a tab.

    Batch File Rename

Build in a batch file renaming function similar to Many Trick's Name Mangler (http://manytricks.com/namemangler/) - which is a free application. Then have little drop boxes associated with specific directories that append preset file renaming instructions when files are dragged to them.

Dual pane - one click copy/move

Hi - have a look at Total Commander in the Win World: When I click copy in the top menu bar it just copies from one pane to the other.

    More flexible sidebar/drawers

    1. The option to be able to add more than 2 shelves per drawer.
    2. Allow the Drop Stack and Trash to be placed anywhere on the Sidebar or Drawer.
    3. Ability to 'group' items in a shelf, so similar items can be put under a group heading. (suggestion 1 may solve this).
    4. Styling for Shelf headers... more

This will require substantial changes to Path Finder, so we'll investigate this as a possible feature for Path Finder 6.

    Smarter copying/moving files

Show the changed-dates and sizes for files with the same name.

Give the dialog an option to replace dest. files that are older than the source files.

Show if a folder is a shared folder

The finder displays a "SHARED" info at the top of a folder if this folder is a shared folder. You can share a folder in system preferences and sometimes I forget to disable this sharing. So I find it quite useful to see this information.
